Common Questions

Motorized Systems FAQ

Which motorized shade brands do you recommend?

We primarily specify Lutron Palladiom and Sivoia QS for their silent operation, precise positioning, and native Savant integration. For specific applications, we also work with Hunter Douglas PowerView, QMotion, and Somfy depending on fabric requirements and architectural constraints.

Can motorized shades be retrofitted into existing windows?

Yes. Most motorized shade systems require only a small power supply routed to the window header. Lutron offers battery-powered options for situations where running low-voltage wiring is impractical. We assess each window during the design consultation.

How quiet are motorized shades?

Lutron Palladiom shades are virtually silent—under 35 dB, quieter than a whisper. This is critical in bedrooms, theaters, and formal living spaces where mechanical noise would compromise the experience.

How do motorized shades coordinate with lighting and climate?

Within Savant, shades are part of the same scene engine as lighting and HVAC. When a Relax scene activates, shades lower to a specific position, lights dim to a warm preset, and temperature adjusts—all simultaneously. Daylight sensors can also trigger shade adjustments that reduce HVAC load automatically.
